Don't Think, Just Do

Don’t Think, Just Do

“Baby down the hall and to the right”.

Eggshell walls such a gastly sight.

A familiar face catches my glance,

Quickly adverts as if in a trance.

A cart wrecks of red jello,

Whose pungent smell is broken by a sympathetic “hello”.

Janitorial work and minimum wage is all she's ever earned,

But when in I walk in, she's my therapist as far as I’m concerned.

A quick chat turns into a convo over a mess hall coffee brew,

But I must continue my trek to room 152.

As I venture on, I peek into the the toddler playroom.

Unsurprisingly Anne is dressed up in a princess fairy costume.

As I waved my hand through the glass,

I was not met with the normal joy and sass.

“Sorry” escaped from her lips.

She ran to her mother with tears and tight grips.

I abruptly turn to comprehend the haze.

Does everyone know these are the final days?

I've reached the wreath we made for spring,

before her arm was confined to that sling.

Oh lord I don't know her current state.

My stomach is turning , I should of ate.

Under OUR wreath said “Contact next of kin.”

Lord please give me the strength to just walk in.

I close my eyes and start to think, what would grand-mamma do.

“This cancer ain’t gone kill me chil’, so don’t let it get to you.”

Other words of wisdom start to ring in my ear,

For the first time I listen and not just hear.

"Smile when you’re sad and laugh when you want to weep.

All will be better when you arise from your sleep.

Tomorrow gives an opportunity to start anew.

When your fears betray you,

don’t think, just do."
