Don't Write It Down, Please.

Have you read a poem, of late?

   One that is supposedly great,

But has words that on your thoughts grate?

Poems are thought of as art,

Readers of them are perceived as smart,

Yet the verses seem to lack heart.

"Fine poetry" is an unusual term.

Words that are broken and worn,

Arranged into verses that burn,

   And hurt rather than heal.

Let the words I write gladden others,

Not weigh them down with bothers.

Incomprehensible, depressing at best,

I'd rather those poets wrote less.

Poetry ought to be a form of praise,

With words of continuity, sense and grace.

If your poetry lacks these

   Don't write it down, please.
