Don't You Dare Blink

It's always an abrupt feeling

when you wake up one morning

and everything has changed.

You spend so many days wishing

and waiting to get older.

Waiting to be able to ride your bike without training wheels

and to be independent

and to drive by yourself

and to move out

and to grow up.

We are impatient and always think the grass is greener

on the other side.

You spend so much time waiting for things to come

but before you know it

they've already passed you by.

With just one blink you are in your senior year,

doing things for the last time

and making decisions about your life,

you thought you didn't have to think about for at least

a couple more years.

With the blink of an eye,

you've matured

and become a better person

and are blossoming into the beautiful person you were always meant to be.

Here's to the end,

which is only the beginning.
