doodle on a notebook

you were once my whole world

my perfect being

now all you are to me

is a doodle on a stray piece of notebook paper

long forgotten

a relic from another time

from another person

a story on someone else’s lips

distant and foreign

sometimes i wonder what it would be like

if you were close to me still

things you would say to me

things we would do

but what does it matter?

you and i are two small boats on a giant ocean

only drifting farther and farther apart

until the other fades into the horizon

never to be seen again
