The Door

A knock on the door

But who could it be?

Someone to enter or making us leave

No longer we open to family or guest

No longer we sit on the cherry oak deck

A knock on the door can come with a shout

With a paper of words we don't know about

So many rules you must know for protection

So many rules, one error, we’re sentenced

Living in fear that a call will send in

“My neighbors a traitor, Mexican skin!”

I act white I speak white So I’ve lived all my life

But one slip and it's gone

Leave a note for my wife

The red scare, the lavender, is this now the black?

Be wary outside or you may be sent back

I count out the differences between you and me

But all I could get to is one two and three

Yet you are the free

And i'm stuck as me
