The Dove and the Raven
The Dove and the Raven
On one cloudy summer day
We see a dove flying astray;
Flying over to a grave
Hoping to enlighten another passing day
On one cloudy summer day
We see a raven perched on a branch
Scanning the world with its piercing eyes
Just watching and waiting for someone to die
As the dove leaves the gravestones
It wanders over to a tree
Not even bothering to notice the raven
Eyeing the dove angrily
The dove now paid heed
To the raven perched on the tree
Because it knew if it turned its back
The raven was sure to attack
The raven was now advancing
As the dove backed away
The raven then fluttered its wings
Trying to make the dove sway
But the dove remained persistent;
Using its wings a shield
It inched closer and closer
Hoping for the raven to yield
The raven was now getting impatient
With the dove playing defense
It opened its beak
And began playing offense
It snapped at the dove’s wings;
Staining them with blood
The dove’s eyes grew wide and fearful
As the raven started to lunge
But just then, at the very moment
The tree snapped in two
Taking down the raven
…and the dove too
