Down and Up

Down, down, down.

Before,

This was all it was.

Bringing me down.

Yelling, hitting, hating.

This was not what I wanted.

So,

I

Left.

Up, up, up.

After,

I found more.

Lifting me up.

I found something else.

Laughing, embracing, loving.

Grasping every word like it will slip through the cracks.

Staring like I will evaporate into the air.

Holding on like I will soar through the treetops.

Honest, kind, caring, genuine.

“Why?”

I ask.

“Because I love you.”

Up, up, up.

That is my heart.
