down by the sea

I once found happiness

halfway through my glass

like the day was well spent

if we had bottles to pass

cigarettes a plenty

and five bucks for a ride home

that was all i wanted

to drink and laugh and roam

now ive got money

booze is always there

i can take the low road

but it goes way down there

i stopped myself one morning

it was about 5

i stumbled down my stairway

and then i took a dive

down

down by the sea of whiskey

i sat high on the rocks

i never was a gambler

i never owned a clock

but i always was a drinker

thats what my stone will say

this bar might close at 3 am

but theres another, down the way
