The downfall of forgetting

One day you’re floating on top of a still stream wondering

And the next it’s raining and your stream turns into a river

And your river leads to a waterfall and somehow you’re no longer floating, you are screaming and clinging to passing rocks, and one finger at a time you let go

Letting yourself topple over the waterfall

Drowning with what ifs

What if you don’t fight back

What if you don’t hold your breathe

What if you let go…….

But memories flood your unconscious

Laughing at your brother whose eyebrows are too bushy

Crying at church with your Dads picture staring at you

Memories.

So you fight

Fight to remember

Fight to live another day

Fight the current of the waterfall

Then the rain slows, finally stopping

And you, one again lay in a still stream wondering……
