Dr. Fear

My hair stands

My body shakes from its cold breath

It meets me around every corner

And it makes me long to learn more from it

It is fear.

Fear has made me want to learn more about my past

Even if the past is threatening

I want to know why I fear the dark

Why I fear loneliness

Why I fear drowning.

If it wasn’t for my good friend, fear

I wouldn’t have thought on when my dad left me alone

I wouldn’t have thought about being left in the dark

I wouldn’t have thought about how I almost left this world while under the water

The point of fear is to face what seems like your worse enemy.

People face their fears daily

But do you thank fear for making you stronger?

I thank fear for helping me realize that even though I was alone

Anything was possible for me without my dad.

I thank fear for helping me realize that even when its dark

My optimism can help me find the light.

I thank fear for helping me realize that even when I’m under water

My strength can pull me back to the surface.

I especially thank fear for shaping me into the person I am today.
