The Dreadlocked Hero

Daniel Coleman Jr

A warrior named Danny lived long ago in a world like ours,

But with dragons and magic

He would train for hours upon hours

For the dragons would wreak havoc

Many could not defeat these beasts, but he did one by one

However they forever returned to feast, his job was never done

Using sword and shield was not enough he said

“I will use destruction spells to make thee dead”

Mastering flame and frost his foes fell

Not only the winged monsters but witches and warlocks as well

The dragons knew Danny was growing too powerful

So the scaled leader devised a plan

He said “These mortals are too magical,

We must travel to a time where they don’t use their hands”

The fire breathers then combined their power to open a portal

As they knew of ancient magic that allowed them to leap forward

But the dreadlocked warrior named Danny was not normal

He already knew to open it he only speak four words

Sneaking as they were scheming

He held back his laugh trying not to joke

It is no wonder they weren’t seeing

He was wearing an invisibility cloak

After the dragons flew into the glowing abyss

He thought to reopen it he would need nine

But he did not need anyone to assist

For you only need nine voices the first time

Following them to this futuristic land

He was unsure if he was in the same realm

Looking around he said “Damn”

The mortals of this time were already overwhelmed

He thought to himself “Entering the portal must cause minutes to fly”

Because when Danny crossed it civilians were already being burnt alive

The warrior saw the foul wyrms circling around huge structures

And crushing moving carriages he couldn’t comprehend

He looked back at the closing rupture

Wondering if he would be able to return home again

Soldiers made bullets rain down on the overgrown lizards like hail

But the beasts only saw them as pebbles that barely pierced their scales

They killed thousands of humans making them flee and dance

The poor sods didn’t even think they were real

Although their weapons were more advanced

They didn’t know that a dragons’ weakness was sharpened steel

But Danny inched closer and closer to battle

He thought to himself “Not even ten

I will prey on them like cattle

This must be the last of them!”

As they slaughtered the helpless and weak

His fury grew

His distant cousins were bloody in defeat

With nothing to do

But then he arrived

Gleaming in glass armor

Fire in eyes

“Dragons no longer!”

He charged down the hill casting fireballs at the strongest one

While shouting at the remaining soldiers

“Distract the rest with those things you call guns

I will kill the one who is older”

It was Kotumaakin

The leader

Danny knew he could stop him

For it was weaker

“You’ve evaded me for the last time coward”

He sprinted right at it blocking its frost breath with his shield

Kotumaakin feared his power

As well as the blade Danny had powerful magic he could wield

One slash two

He lept back as Kotumaakin lunged at him

Striking again before he flew

In its wing with force it could not fathom

The massive monster ignored the wound and tried to fly away

But crash landed almost as soon as it took off

The dreadful dragon thought to itself “Will I die today?”

As Danny covered its feet with frost

It clumsily clawed its way to a standing position

And exhaled a long breath of fire in vain

His arm began to burn and his glass shield began to glisten

But Danny’s soul shined brighter than the most furious of flames

When he reached Kotumaakin it attempted to bite him in half from overhead

He was expecting this however and was determined to make it dead

He sliced upwards and rode the beast’s head when it lowered

An epic moment surely not dull

He shouted “You killed my sister Danica do you know her?”

And repeatedly drove his sword into its skull

Danny left Kotumaakin’s lifeless body lying face down in the street

And examined the scene

The modern men killed the three dragons that were weak

They weren’t as helpless as they seemed

Out of the five dragons that remained two fled

And he slew the other three with 24 brave souls

He had planned to hunt down the final ones in bed

Knowing he would fill them with many holes

They asked Danny many questions that night wondering where he was from

All he could really say was “A place unlike this one”

In the morning he left to slay the dragons and return home

The men offered to join but he rather do this deed alone

The younger brothers of Kotumaakin were no match for him and fell before his blade

The people of this distant land filled with gratitude gracious that they were saved

Left in awe of the mysterious man who reduced the monsters to zero

They wondered who was the dreadlocked hero...
