Dream
Eyes shut, wind howling,
Awake, alert, humans scowling.
The protection on my head so no one sees,
That I am going weak, shaking knees.
I have wished upon this moment,
And now the time has come.
Through the uprights, I see the ball fly,
Then the crowd runs out, buries me beneath.
For I have won the game against our rivals.
What more?
I am a girl
And no one believes in us anymore.
To show them I can, this is my dream.
But lining up I cannot breathe,
The emotion I feel is too much for me.
But, alas, the world spins on.
On through time
And on
And on.
And what do I do?
I kick the ball.
To my dismay,
It begins to fall,
And fall
And fall
And fall.
I catch my breath, I hold my tear
The ball has missed, wasn’t even near.
I missed to the left
How, I have no clue.
My knees weak.
Heart weak.
Dream shattered in two.
This dream of mine came crashing down.
And everyone will continue to frown,
Upon the women of the world,
So I am sorry to say
That in this moment,
My moment
Our dream
My dream
Is now a shattered dream.
And men that were there, oh yes they sure judged,
And the year after that I was treated a drudge.
Not given a glimpse of more dreams.
I was shut down.
Was it me to blame?
How can I know?
When promises are empty,
The word of a man holds no meaning
For this dream
My dream
Is wrapped up and done.
But I have another, so my light stays aglow
Bright eyed, headed to college
More dreams yet to come.
Because no dream of mine
Can be hindered or tied.
The big picture of life,
Is where I belong.
Little dreams along the way,
Ever changing and growing.
Because this dream
My dream
Continues to shine.
Always kindled
Never left to die.
For all these people who see me,
Please do not fret.
Because this dreamer in me is not quite done dreaming yet.
