The Dream

I see once I lay down in bed, this abhorrent dream in my head

That I cannot explain no matter how long the thought I feast.

It starts; there am I in a wood, wondering if whether I should,

If I, the hunter ever could, shoot before me this wild beast-

“I can do this,” I whispered, “And once I do so we will feast!”

This doe will our hunger cease.

A doe is the creature I face. I trailed tracks that I tried to trace

Finally, after this long race, all the hard work I put in ceased.

Hence, in the sights of my crosshairs, I harm more than a few lost hairs-

For we will hold a feast in town there, with such an abundance of meat-

For with my family I will share this food and the fame of this beast-

Or just the food at the least.

Though this dream is rather thrilling, the mood becomes more than chilling

When the sun begins setting, dipping and dropping in the East.

I become confused and question, but forget due to the beckon

From my intellect each second, that I wait to kill the beast-

My family is hungry and back home waiting to feast.

My patience started to decrease.

Therefore, I push away all thoughts, and think no more of what I ought

Moreover, the creature I sought, was not a doe to say the least

For when I pulled the gun’s trigger, I watched as the bullet hit her

And my heart began to wither when the dead body at my feet

Became a woman as pretty as a thousand blossoms to say the least

The thought still and will surcease.

So now, when I lay down to bed, I worry of what lies ahead

Will it be a dove to a babe the next time the daylight will cease?

When the dream brings me to the wood, I wonder if whether I could,

Make the decision that I should, and recall the death of the beast

Seeing her there was like death to say the least.

Nightmares, sometimes, are the beast.
