Dream Lover
I fell in love with a dream
He was tall and chiseled, chest hard as stone
Though it contained a heart so tinder and warm
His face was unique, strong and defined
But embellished with a writer’s old knowing eyes
His hands were calloused and rough but gentle when he touched
Our nights were filled with warm conversations
Of God and love, of simple trust
And when the world became too much
When life’s winds were cold and rushed
We’d dance
With lights dimmed and my hand in his
We’d dance in our socks in the living room floor
Then was when I couldn’t love him more
When he would pick me up and we’d dance through our bedroom door
We’d dance on our bed, where our love would pour
Wrapped in sheets, we’d dance all night
But my gentleman would flee the morning light
I’d awake alone, he was no where in sight
My gentle lover, I’ll meet you again in my sleep
Oh how I wish you were mine to keep
