A Dream Realized

Dreams…

I believe in dreams…

Not your mere overnight fetish or scheme for instant gratification…

But I mean lifetime aspirations

Dreams…

I mean the all or nothing dreams…

Like the action potential of every cell in your living flesh

Dreams…

Dreams as in…

D for Damn what you have to say, I'm going to achieve

R for aRe you with me or aRe you against me?

E for Everything is on the line

A for Achievement

M for Martin Luther King's March on Washington

S for Starvation and dedication…

like the anorexic Muslim

who would rather transform himself into a pest and fall prey to Charlotte's web

than feast on Wilbur who lies below

unconscious from black market prescription drugs

battling bouts of arthritis and two broken legs

Dreams…

unthinkable… impossible… inconceivable

Dreams…

Dreams like becoming the first black man from Winston-Salem, North Carolina to truly make it…

Other than Chris Paul…

Doing something other than bouncing a basketball

for a supremacist who thinks the word "nigga" is too soft to address his infant daughter by

and thinks this gold chain around my neck should be accompanied by some rope and a tree branch

Dreams…

Dreams of transforming this land of free-doom…

This land of the white free…

Constructed by blue-handed captives…

Purified by red genocide…

Is that what we mean by red, white, and blue?

Dreams…

I don’t mean your overnight REM struggle…

I mean overcoming the struggle…

I mean instead of becoming bogged down by others

Becoming mind-boggling…

Mind-boggling dreams

Dreams that life is like a bow and arrow…

And as I am dragged back through this muck… and corruption… and prejudice…

I will one day be launched even further…

Free to fly…

Free to fly into the future…

To fly into the hearts of others …

Fly into… my dreams
