A Dream Slipping Away

Dear Woman of My Life,

It’s me, the guy who secretly had a crush on you but was never brave enough to say something. We’ve been apart for about 8 months now, but I still want you to know that I have feelings for you, but I only wish I could tell you in person. Instead, here’s a rap that explains what I am going through.

The first time we met in class

You said that I was as strange as a bass

I looked at you with surprise in my eyes

Seeing as you threw me a bunch of knives

That day mark a relationship between us

But was it meant to be left behind for a guy named Gus?

I gave you food and talk

I would have climbed more to get what you want, maybe even a beanstalk

We talked more and more every day we met

And I became more entangled in your fishing net

You were pulling me in and not letting me go

I struggled so much to conceal the secret I had vertigo

You kept slapping me with your canteen on my butt and smiling

I laughed on the outside, but my insides were screaming

Senior year of high school came and we have progressed

We are more than just friends, or so I guessed

We sat next to each other in the room helping each other out

Because that’s what being lovers is all about

All that time I was shaking like a mad dog

And when we were outside you’d shake from the cold fog

I couldn’t have been more happy or angry with myself

You were Ms. Claus and I was just a working elf

It wasn’t until March of that year

That I my heart began to break a tear

So then what was the point of me making that card

When I could have just thrown it into the junkyard?

After graduation I never saw you again

But I never forgot you, not even if I was to become a huntsman

I tried to call you to see if you wanted to chat

But you never pick up, so I lay on the hard mat

College started and my friend says you miss me

But what can I do to liberate thee?

How am I supposed to continue

If all I’m doing is singing Richard Marx and the other songs that are blue?

Just tell me one thing girl; that’s all I’ll ask of you to do

Do you love me the way I love you?

If you do, then come to me and let me prove it

So I can stop feeling like a culprit

And if not, then my work here done

There’s no point for us to be one

I hope this helps you understand what my emotions are. Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Sanchez
