The Dreamer

When I was younger…

I had dreams of drawing an everlasting rainbow

Drawing seven beams of light emitted from two clouds,

held in the center of the sky

so that even in the darkest of times we are reminded of life’s beauty

However, when I grew older,

People laughed at my dreams

Couldn’t understand the possibilities in my impossible feats

Because my beliefs

Were contrary to our reality

Our upbringing involved

Grave sites and abortions

Dead bodies on hop-scotch basketball courts in symmetrical silhouette contortions

Mothers cry

Tears dripping down crosses

Flipping through biblical scriptures to hear God’s voice

But God’s voice sounds like the silence of a child

Staring outside of a window

Waiting for his father who gave up his parental rights two years ago

Yet, still waiting for him

Where I’m from,

Fathers come as rare as blue moons and celestial lights over

Brooklyn’s skyline

And to keep men, I’ve witnessed women abort fetus

Because men fear a baby’s cry

Constantly saying there isn’t any good men around

Falling for the unworthy

Those Robbin Hoods only

Interested in your geometrical crevice of a diamond’s form

Because your body became temple to false prophet left hollow

Your past…

In your past you sold your gems for a piece of wood

Now failing to trust me

Believing all men are made from the same material

But I’m made from metal

I’m durable

I’m everlasting willing to put a ring on you

To show you that it’s real

I got vision

Fueled by ambition

A relentless work ethic to run twenty miles on soft sand

In one breath-Never breathless

Removed shackled ignorance off my ankles so I can fly

 Because I am more than

Hospital ICU visits and funerals caused by guns drum-line

I am more than pharmaceutical schemes, weighing my life’s future on

Triple beams

I am more than

Prostitution and misusing moving women soulless corpses on cement corners

To earn my wealth

All I got is my mental health

And as a man I must

Innovate and achieve for my dreams

Despite what anyone tells me

Because my dream is beauty

So I’ve climbed this stairwell to heaven

With my twenty four pack Crayola crayon box

To draw this, everlasting rainbow in the sky

To let these young bucks know that there is still beauty

Even in the darkest of times

And to follow your dreams

Despite the animosity. . .
