Dreamer

She sits silently, staring out through the window

She watches the clouds drift past in the deep blue sky

From the outside, she looks at peace

If only people could really see what she hides inside

Sitting within the four walls of her room

Her mind floats to the beautiful Greek islands

She can just feel the warm sand between her toes

The waves gush as the wind carries droplets of water on to her skin

As she sits and stares into the vastness of the sky

She dreams of herself dressed in a beautiful dress that’s as red as a ruby

She sparkles from her head to her toes —adorned with jewels

She moves slowly and steadily, with small steps as she approaches the stage

Seated on her floral bed, she closes her eyes and smiles

She sees herself surrounded by flasks and beakers and compounds

Equipped with her goggles, gloves, and a white lab coat

She mixes and pours different elements together, hoping to create a cure like no other

She smiles at her thoughts and wishes to never awake from this fantasy

But of course, there’s a knock at the door and her escape must come to an end

She returns to her mundane life of doctors’ visits and bills to pay

She is back to being the glue to her family while the dreamer goes back to hide until next time
