Dreaming of a Brighter Tomorrow

Dreaming of a Brighter Tomorrow

By

Asante’ Alveraz

As I wallow in the swamp of darkness

I search for the one glimmer of light

The calls of my loved ones become whispers in the dark.

A melody to accompany my blight,

The crest on my back a reminder of my past.

The pain in my chest an un-fillable pit of darkness, How long will it last?

These eyes, a window to my soul

This body, a tool used for my revenge.

As I review my life, I crawl deeper into this dark hole.

The water begins to rise

Every step conjures up voices but their words become lost in the echo.

As I reach the lowest depths of my despair, a light comes forth.

A light I lost long ago.

I reach out for it; my hand grips the shore of a new land.

I drag myself ashore, the sky lit with the light I lost…rather the light I misplaced.

The voices I had erased.

Return bringing with them joy to my face.

As I awaken a single a tear streams down my cheek.

I gaze out of my window.

For some reason my future is no longer bleak.
