Dreams

Langston wrapped himself in dreams,

Some believe he inspired Mr. King,

Jr., that is, I Have A Dream,

the speech which split the seams.

Why are we only told about the frontrunners?

I respect Martin and the work he did,

but what about the ones who inspired him?

The poets, like Mr. Hughes,

who knew dreams needed to be used,

to inspire, to teach,

to practice, to preach.

Let’s teach the children the beautiful words,

the words behind the most historical turns.

Let’s teach them to write their dreams,

to read them to the world and bust through the seams.

My country
Our world
