Dreams

Dreams don’t come true.
No matter what you think, say, or do.
You can try your hardest and give it all you got,
But you'll never reach 'em
So you'll leave 'em to rot.
I've always dreamt that I'd become a star.
But, of course, those dreams got hit by a car
And flushed down the drain
Along with the pain
And the tears that came
From learning that I'll be the same
As any Josh, Benny, or Lucy
Who tried their best to see
If they could climb that mountain and conquer those fears
That came from all the years
Of being told that they couldn't
Or that they shouldn't
Be who they want to be.
Because it won't look right in their family tree
Or that they can't get to the top from where they started
And they'll just be left broken hearted.
Since I realized my dream,
I've tried my best to build a team
Of people who had the same dream as me.
So we could work together to find that key
That opened the door for us to see
The light at the end of the tunnel.
Only to find it grow smaller and turn into a funnel
That only let through a select few
And left our hearts broken in two
Just like we'd always been told
Since before we grew old.
Dreams are dreams and nothing more.
If you try to achieve 'em,
You'll just be left sore.
I learned this lesson the hard way.
Don’t end up like me.
Just push them away.
