Dreams Cost Too Much

Location

It all began when my dad killed my fish,

when I cried and said a new CD was my only wish

I was only three when he brought one home

And it only took me 2 days to learn every song

But what do you do when your dream costs too much?

When I was 7 I begged and pleaded

That taking piano lessons was all that I needed

I played every key both the black and white

That's when I knew that music was my life

But what do you do when your dream costs too much?

I got older and moved on to new things

Instead of piano I learned to play strings

My fingers on the viola making a majestic sound

For almost 7 years I couldn't put it down

But what do you do when your dream costs too much?

Later I found a guitar

I found out that picking wasn't too hard

Of the instruments I knew it became my favorite of the three

I loved the feeling of strumming with that guitar on my knee

But what do you do when your dream costs too much?

Now its time to make decisions and the only thing I know

Is that music is my passion and this I want to show

See the problem isn't grades or matters of acceptance

The problem is that my dream requires there to be money present

But what do you do when dreams costs too much?

I've carried my dream through 17 years

And they all said that good grades would get me there

And everyone is asking for my plan

And I know what I want to do but I don't know if I can

What do you do when dreams cost too much?

So I'll sit and I'll pray

And those instruments I will pray

Because even if my dream is costly

There is no place I'd rather be
