Dreams (inspired by Dr. Suess)
I have some advice for people like you
Just look to the sky and about Who?
Who would I be if I didn’t have me
To tear down the beams of this monstrosity
That had the incredible ability
To make someone famous, someone like me.
But I couldn’t be famous, it couldn’t possibly be
I couldn’t be famous, it just wouldn’t be me.
Now I said what I meant and I mean what I say
And I don’t have to mean it in a way
That you’ll understand, just listen, I say
Walk a mile an hour; you’re well on your way
To reaching the North Pole by morning.
And there’ll you find Santa and his eight tiny deer
That have sprouted some horns from that magical corn
That the children give them every 25th of December.
Every year this has happened, since the first man yelled
“Timber!”
Then the first Truffula Tree went Ker-Plunk! on the ground
And every Who down in Whoville made one little sound
A sound something very like “Do”
And to follow that “Do”, came a soft little “Ra”
And up to a “Mi” and a “Fa” then a “So”
And full out singing erupted below
And the singing, it rose, to a little Grinch nose
Poking out of a bungalow atop such a hill
Where the snow lay so cold that every mouse froze.
From the depths of this snow lay one little seed
That was soon to be harvesting what everyone needs
Not a thneed or a song or a Truffula Fruit
But a dream where a little dream fairy uproots
All the thoughts and the wishes that have blossomed away
In that little pink mold of a brain in your head.
And after you lay down your soft head
On the fluffy white pillow on your comfy old bed
Where the dreams drift away to be captured someday
By the young wistful mind of a child.
