Dreams of Sleep

Miriam dreams of the sleep
She lost, the day he fell
Now a cup of tea, a reverie
Unpaid work that love demands
The love she can’t recall
“Wiwam,” he calls out
She goes to him, a bee
Emptying her belly
Drip by drip, draining
Corpse of a spouse, skeleton
Laconic—not by choice
Drools when she feeds him
How can a clot so small—
8mm—make an infant of a man?
Should love be so demanding?
To take zest out of our lives
Reciprocal tenacity, him and her
Who’s more tenacious between us
Does the winner gets to sleep well?
