Drift Away

Pulling away from my kiss
Making me sink into the deep abyss
 No longer heart to heart
Wishing to know when the distance began
Questioning what she gives you that I can't
Long car rides, only a ten minute drive
To meet your expectations I strive
Thinking of all the wounds that were to be healed
Flashbacks of us laying in that field
The Big Dipper made us feel so small
Maybe it was just the alcohol
Then you held me in your arms
Too weak to resist your charm
I saw the shards of my windshield fly
I bid you a soft goodbye
The road was no longer under my car
 A feeling uniquely bizarre
I realize I will never be a bride
I saw you when I died
 Buried in the wood
 I’ve drifted away for good
