Drifting Away

A layer of light glided across the snow

Hot sticky film covered my face

Colorful vapors clouded my heart

They expanded and filled me

A body of concentrated emotion

The light continued to glide

It engulfed me

And then the pain fractured and dissolved

Leaving a rhythmic pulse

That squeezed and wrenched light out of me

Until the snow kissed my skin

And a pallid expression forever remained

Impressed upon

A deadening face
