The Drive
My hands gripped tightly on two and ten I can feel my heart pulsing throughout my body
The key is not in the ignition of my baby blue Kia Rio yet, but I’m already going over the speed
Limit
Just yesterday I was at the DMV finally receiving what I had wished for what had felt like ages
That little piece of plastic
My parents trust in me is overwhelming
They are relying on me to drive to my tennis lessons by myself, solo, alone
As I eagerly set out on the forty-five-minute drive, my mind is flooded with thoughts
As I pass the tall buildings filled and loud cars occupied by busy people
I start thinking about life, my future, and who I am
I’m practically already having my mid-life crisis
Is this what adulthood is like?
I soon start to admire how far I’ve come in life; I’m as independent as I’ve ever been
And the feeling is bittersweet
Looking back, I realized that moment was only a taste of reality I would soon be engulfed in
