Drivers Ed

You were the only one who noticed, the only one who knew.

The only one who cared, and the only one who asked.

My grades were slipping, I stopped talking, my head was down.

My mouth was silent. But no one cared. I had no idea how long I’d last.

I don’t know why, I felt so sad. But you were there.

I never knew you, we weren’t that friendly. You were my teacher,

In a blow of class. I did the work, at the end of the semester.

I crammed it all at the end of the day, I got it done,

Eventually.

I didn’t know anyone in that class. I sat alone every day.

Some people were friendly, but that was all.

I never did, the busy work. I put my head down but I didn’t sleep.

I was all alone, I felt so helpless. Not just there but everywhere.

One day, you asked me, if everything was “ok”,

I said it was and smiled, you were the only one who cared.

Who noticed, who asked. Since things weren’t ok,

But you asked anyways.
