Driving in Rain

Driving down the road,

the rain falling like tears from the sky.

The windshield wipers swish, swish, swishing

back and forth, back and forth;

blinking away the tears, that blur my vision.

The tears of anger, that come with thunder and lightning.

The tears of fear, that come suddenly and drown.

The tears of sorrow, that puddle around us on a gray day.

The tears of relief, that come after a long dry spell,

and the tears of happiness, that come on a clear spring morning.

Roaring, screaming, moaning, sighing, or squealing the raindrops fall.

Drip, drip, drip, drop, dink, fall they do and land they must.

Froom, zoom, the car plods along,

down the road blinking away tears.
