A dream is supposed to be love and keen

but a dream deferred can prevent even the craziest dream

Will you let color, age or sex defer your dream?

or will you trust, believe, love and achieve,

Will your dream be deferred, because of a baby?

or will you cover it up and say, “No, I’m a lady,”

Will your dream be deferred, because of drugs and gangs?

or will you be a leader and tell them, “Man I can’t hang,”

Will your dream be deferred, because of laziness?

or will you stop feeding your face, watchin TV and say, “I’m going to make it,”

Will your dream be deferred, because of peer pressure?

or will you stand up tall and say, “I am better,”

Will your dream be deferred, because of life obstacles?

or will you look evil in the face and have hope anyway

Will your dream be deferred, because of pessimistic people?

or will you say, “Optimistic is the way,”

Will your dream be deferred, because of family issues?

or will yall come together and pray

Will your dream be deferred, because of money problems?

or will you take control and work harder
