A Drop That Quakes the World

Why must all in life have an end?

Why must everything share the same fate?

Why must we have wounds that even time fails to mend?

And why is it our mortality we ceaselessly contemplate?

Why does the flower bloom only to wither and wilt?

Why are children born if they are destined to die?

Why do we continue if time erases everything we have built?

Because, despite this, there is one fact we cannot deny

Life is short, but we are only given one shot

The only uncertainty is how it will flow

Each chooses their own path, be it well-treaded or one they alone sought

Regardless, only time will show what becomes of the seeds they decided to sow

Each leaves a mark as they walk, run, and stumble through life

Some decide to give it all up and fall

Others remain happy despite trials and strife

Yet this mark is left through it all

Although the mark will not be felt until time itself comes to a halt,

It will change the world, even if it started out small

For a single drop can create others if it strikes without fault

And that drop can create others who in turn will fall

I have known for ages that I have wanted to help others heal

Yet I could never name what drives me down this path

Why give others what the universe will always steal?

Why dole out time that is always taken as the universe does its cold, never ending math?

Because, although my life is only one drop with ripples that only briefly show,

I can help give life so that other drops can ripple as well

And I can ensure that the ocean continues to flow

And, when my time is through, I may touch a thousand drops before they fell

Why does the flower bloom if death is all that lies in wait?

Because it will have an impact, however it is felt

It may bring more color to the world if it finds a mate

Or it may be plucked to help a heart melt

Its effects could be seen around the world

Or maybe only between a person or two

Only time will see its entire tale unfurled

And each life has a chance to provide something new

I hope to be true to myself, leading a life without regret

And have an impact that forever will last

But chances are that the world will forget

And any memory of me will be long past

But sometimes a loophole lies within reach

Even in the contract of life in which we are all bound

It is one I am eager to preach

And hopefully others will hear my voice resound

My goal in life has and always will be

To help others have a life as blessed as mine

And, if I do this well enough, you see

The ripples I make will leave the world a sign

A sign that will stand the test of time

As the little actions I make

Cause the entire world to quake

And, although to all ends, a beginning and to beginnings, an end

I can make a thousand beginnings before I am but dust to the wind

My fate and that of the world will bind

And, to my single drop, an ocean will bind

The truest person I can be

Is one that binds the world to me

But I promise it will be for the best, as long as nothing changes my mind
