Drought

Do you remember that day on the swings, the swings swinging back… and forth? You told me all your secrets and I… was swinging back… and forth touching tree tops trying to ignore your desperate lies that I could no longer trust. Do you remember sitting, speaking to me about your dreams, your perfect world, and I wondered, was I included in that? As your words touched me touching tops of trees as I was swinging back… and forth, so I couldn’t hear your muffled murmurs. Do you remember your broken promises held up by a piece of string? swinging lifelessly back… and forth, uncertain just like the rain that brushed tree tops that I could no longer touch. You and me were we until you became I and I became me a whole different self of self respect and truth that I didn’t know lie dormant. You left me sleeping while you crept out, out of my life in the world that I beheld in my eyes, your eyes that were once shining brightly, surprised dimmed like candles blown out by unexpected swinging back… and forth, unbalanced, extinguished and faded echoing laughter that was not yours and smiles that were not mine. Your silence crushed me like the weight of a toppling tree as I stood in its way, a burden of unawareness because I guess I was unaware and I couldn’t prepare myself for the crash. The crash that I didn’t hear because you didn’t even bother to tell me. That was the moment that my swing broke with your promise, Your promise to always be there, There for me when I couldn’t see, blinded by this unexpected mystery in ways I could no longer understand. But I couldn’t swing Back… and forth because you took that from me, I couldn’t touch the trees because they were all gone and you. took. that. from. me. And I guess it was easy, like chopping trees that I strived to touch Now lifeless, roots of drowned Lies. Lies that I clung to like it was the last rain drop in this drought this drought that I could no longer survive.
