The Drought In Cape Town

Rain landing on the tin roof of the house Announcing itself as quiet as a mouse Starts to pick up on the beat Stone paving steams in the cooling heat I lie here hoping the sound won’t subside And prove that the meteorologist had lied (5% light rain forecast) How long is this drought set to last? And the squall too soon fizzles And the clouds only produce ineffectual drizzles They dissipate in the wind Warped evangelists say it’s because we have sinned 10 minutes later what we all prayed for continues unabated We are now underwater feeling cold and frustrated The view from the roof is of water Flooding the land to every quarter 10 days later and our dams are full to the brim Now no more evidence of sin Thankfully Day Zero is something of the past My TV floats by and I wonder how long this rain will last
