Drowning
I feel like a drowning quadriplegic
sinking to the bottom of the ocean,
sinking deeper and
deeper into your angry eyes.
Bubbles stream out of my nose
like hopeful bouquets of flowers
bustling with life in their little round modules,
quickly scuttling up over my head and far above me.
My lungs are swaddled in empty promises.
My voice tangled in a mesh of all the wrong words
throbbing frantically to get out and hear their own chords.
I feel like a drowning quadriplegic lying in the bed next to you.
Sinking further and
further from you
lost somewhere in the wake of your storm.
