Drowning

I am drowning in the waves of emotion

You used to be able to stand in them, you were tall enough

But when I went to meet you past the sandbar you left

So now I swim by myself in the ocean of emotion

Not even tall enough to keep from going under

I just go under, again and again, trying to stand

You left me to drown.

After encouraging me to meet you in the deep

And for some reason, I believed your claims of promising to help me.

But now no one can truly help me.

It was only you and I who were aware the water was even there.

So now everyone looks at me funny

Because to them I am struggling with nothing

To them, it does not exist.

No one even realizes that I am drowning

You knew

But you left me to drown.

And it seems you forgot

So now even you think I am crazy,

Bobbing my head around and kicking and screaming

Just trying to live.

But

I don’t know what is worse

Drowning

Or giving up and swimming back to the shallow end

And forever staring at those in the deep.
