Drowning

Trapped beneath the strong hand of fear,

Begging for a moment of mercy,

But I know I will not find that here.

I want to scream but my lungs tighten,

Air bubbles rise around my submersed body,

The pain within my chest heightens.

There is darkness to my left and right,

Engulfing me until my existence ceases,

But I know I still have to fight.

Kick, thrust, attack the malicious waves,

Once one gives up, another replaces it,

It is becoming hard to be brave.

Perhaps it would be easier to let go,

Let the inexhaustible enemy take me,

Sinking deeper and deeper below.

For so long I have fought for breath,

The constant struggle to find hope,

But I am greeted only with death.

So I accept the clutches of oblivion,

With weak and defeated arms,

Let me be thrust into obsidian.

Again I have been denied victory,

Part of my ever-present nightmare,

Because of feelings so contradictory.

From this vicious cycle I've been scarred,

A piece of me torn away each time,

Yeah, talking to you was always hard.
