Drowning

He told me I was different;

That I could understand him

I can’t remove the scars his father embedded in his skin

I can’t take away his mother’s blatant ignorance

Clouds built up in his mind trying to cover up all of the damage

Lightning struck as he remembered bits and pieces of violence and rage

But the clouds have become a storm and it’s too dark for me to go in and save him

Besides, how do you pull someone out of the clouds when they’re hung up on the taste of rain?

The fog blinded him from his beauty

And thunder drowned out his song

As puddles became oceans,

His eyes spewed out waterfalls

His mind must have been flooded when

He finally decided to freshen the wounds his father left him with

He was wrong;

I am not different

And I did not understand him

As much as I like to think I did
