Drowning as a mermaid

they wanted to think she had fallen 

hopelessly in love with some human boy

but that was because 

no one wanted to talk about what happened

how she begged for their help

and they ignored her

she said

she was drowning

but everyone around her was still breathing

they called her crazy

they told her everyone

was happy 

under the sea

so why couldn't she

just lighten up a little
