The Drum
When she was just a girl, she expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
And the lies caught in her teeth
Broken spirit and dirty, raw feet
In her dreams, she escaped defeat
She laughed and loved
No more tears
Freedom from fears
And to walk to her own beat with clean
Unadulterated feet
But the dreams faded and her feet cracked
She realized what her life truly lacked
"Independence," she cried
"It's all I need"
But the powers to be
The menfolk, you see
Said she
Was disillusioned and wack
So she took a step back
And let her feet crack
This woman then decided in her heart
That for her part
She would try with all her might
To beat on her drum and fight
To make her dreams a reality
To achieve equality
However
Despite her attempts to change the weather
Her drum shattered and her feet gave out
So she had a shout
And said
"Men and women
Women and men
Are not all the different
We deserve the same
Because we are the same"
Her message delivered
Signed, stamped, and sealed
She packed up her drum
And returned to her dreams
Permanently
Leaving other women in her wake
To take
What she had said
And spread
For all of womankind's sake
