dust

i’d rather whirl through space-
descending every crevasse,
and climbing every tree.

but restraining me is the force
of gender rules and fear,
and the need to be carried
when I tire.

tiny fingers make us yearn
to cuddle-
but those with tiny fingers
yearn to be free.
