Dust
I see him almost everyday,
With a smile and the warm embrace of friendship.
His company is bittersweet,
Because I know we cannot be.
My feelings arose a long time ago,
When I was a foolish girl.
Now I am older and in need of a companion.
He notices my frown, but doesn't ask why,
He is distracted by other matters.
I am powerless;
Dust is what I've become.
In the eye of the storm,
I see him, with her,
And I, left in the dust,
See the joy she brings him.
He looks right through my tears,
And he only sees her.
She is the apple of his eye,
He sees beyond her faults,
She is my friend too.
But I know her true form,
Hidden behind he sweet facade;
She is my friend nevertheless.
After our encounter, he leaves with her,
And I become dust once more.
