Dust

become dust with me.
let our skin shrivel with time from the life we've lived,
the life we've relished.
must our clocks quit ticking?
we glance at how the long hand creeps to a halt as it hits 12.
with ripened eyes,
we have the vision of fresh souls,
dancing in the moonlight.
the night those 3 sweet words escaped from your tender lips.
those 3 decadent words
I've never heard together.
before you made them in your mouth,
you chewed soft like sugar cane,
polished them with your tongue,
gave them to me sweet and I swore I'd never get them lost.
now here we are,
conformed with time itself, ourselves surrendered to the seasons.
we shuffle our feet to the eternal rhythm of the wind,
harmonizing our essence with the tempo of life.
bodies washed in the tides,
our souls have found a way to dance again.
