The Dying Flame

What do I blame for our loves demise?

Maybe we should compromise

Maybe I wasn’t right for him

Maybe he was too good for me

Maybe it was the uncertainty that I’d give everything

Blame it on karma

For all that I’ve teased, yanked along and walked over

But that doesn’t ease the pain from your abandonment

Because of your apathy

I was left in the cold

Everyone knowing she was chosen over me

Choking on my own worthlessness

What really broke me was when I had to wear that façade

Nothing happened

It didn’t hurt

I’m doing great

I’ve moved on

We are totally fine

We have resolved our issues

Truth is part of me will be forevermore broken

Forever lost

I will never get it back

Trust ruined

Tortured by your mixed messages

Teased and tormented

Hanging by that one last stand of hope

When it all caught up in flames

You still had me wondering

Where did I go wrong?

Then he came into my life

A new possibility

A new relationship that makes me feel whole again

But do I really have to try again?

I don’t know if I can risk it all in this cycle of disillusionment and despondency

All I can do is try and hope for better
