A Dying Race
I am from a dying race,
The language fading with our last breaths,
The ‘āina (land) slipping from our fingertips,
Therefore, our culture is gone...
NO!
We must kū‘ē (resist)!
We shall stand up and fight for our kūpuna (ancestors)!
For all they have given us,
the blood that flows through our veins and gives us life,
We will revitalize the culture into what it once was,
We will put the language back into the mouths of our children,
and the land into the hands of its caretakers.
He Hawai‘i au mau a mau.
(I am Hawaiian, now and forever)
