This Dying Vessel
We are all given one vessel.
A being that we cannot trade out,
One that is ours until the end of time.
Some of us are thrilled with these personal temples.
Some of us are blessed with beautiful structures draped in gold,
Some of us are given creaking structures,
Filled with cracks and mold.
My personal being was nothing extraordinary.
Then it began to decay.
Suddenly the walls were crashing down,
The pillars holding me up began to crack.
I was no longer a beautiful place of worship.
I was scorned and forgotten.
Soon disease set in on my already broken body.
Loneliness and illness often come hand in hand.
Nobody wants to associate with a wilting flower.
I was living in my greatest fear;
Being alone.
It took me a long time to realize that
I was in fact not alone.
For we are all blessed with a beautiful mind.
When one's vessel has cracked and is left for dead,
The mind is still there.
On this I drew strength.
Soon enough my structure was being repaired.
I built myself back up,
Day after day,
Week after week,
Month after month.
Slowly, my walls were back up.
The cracks in my pillars filled.
Fear may still attempt to drill down my walls
But as long as I have my own mind
I know I shall not fall again.
