Déjà vu
the music is so loud and distasteful
You say it is art.
the canvas has no pattern or structure
You say that’s the point.
i never understood why we remained friends
we are not alike
you scream yes
i whisper no
but yet we are here
we look up at the sky
chattering like always
laughing about that one time in that one place
everything is good
life is great
your smile is soon erased
you pull out a paper
i am confused or that is at least what I tell myself
the words make no sense
you say it is poetry
i hear you and i listen
for the words written in the stanzas speak the truth
no i am not upset
no i am not suicidal
if you come to me and ask for words
i will give you nothing more than the feeling of déjà vu
it will get better
i promise
please don’t blame me
for the words I speak are only what I know
yes i read the textbooks
yes i watch the videos
but for some reason it does not feel like enough
we depart onto our separate ways
with our heads too heavy for our necks
i think of the worst case scenario
i stop
i turn
tick tock
…
tick tock
if you need me, i’m here, i say
i know, you say
you did not need me, or maybe you did
maybe that is what i tell myself so your final departure wasn’t as hard
you never took the note back
i don’t know why I kept it
maybe it motivates me
maybe it shows there is always another way
now i have yours and hopefully you will have mine
for this poem has unspoken words
I say it is art.
the poem has no pattern or structure
I say that’s the point.
