e caelo occidunt

They crackled with a newfound vivacity,

an electricity surging not through hard, hot wires but through flesh and

blood and sticky veins. They rose to heights unreached,

with flameproof wings and unwavering arms.

They reached with hands unbroken, unbent

by the weight of time and grief and living.

They were kings and queens, lords and ladies,

gods and goddesses sitting at the peak of Olympus,

a pantheon of warm sweat mingled with

cooling blood. They fell like comets,

singular specks of stuck-up space junk,

one rule ended and another began.
