Each Ending

It never is our favorite part.

Though not enticing or a treat,

Each ending is a new start.

My hero on the screen

Coolest guy I’d ever seen

The type who seemed nice, even when he’s mean

Found out, he was dead years ago

It hits you like a bullseye dart

And makes you stop and miss a beat

It never is our favorite part

Just an accident one night

Downed a few more pills than another might

Took till the morning to know he wasn’t all right

Almost wish I didn’t know

It tastes of sadness, slightly tart

But each ending is a new start.

Died while we knew him bold

While his walk and talk were oversold

Even before we could watch him grow old

Half his story left unsung

Those tearful ends, be still my heart

The ones that make you leave your seat

Each ending is a new start

He’s remembered well

Made the books, from what I can tell

He made us laugh, we’re still under his spell

He lives on, forever young.

-----

Each closing is a work of art

Eventual and bittersweet

It never is our favorite part

But each ending is just a new start.
