For Each Other
So transparent I can see through you, I know a side of you no one else ever will
More open than a book, I rarely have to guess what’s going on
Even when you get it wrong, I love you still
Time with you usually seems short, but sometimes it feels really long
An issue nowadays can be so divisive, so much so that
One’s desire to be right can be so striking
It causes judgement, violence, and a lot of fear
But with you, I find that thoughtful dialogue is near
Being around you inspires a sense of faith
Almost like it’s a genetic trait
We’ll work through tough times until things are great
The reason we ingratiate is because we know how to communicate
When I talk, you listen
When we walk and I’m tripping
I know you’ll position
Yourself
To catch me, that’s true wealth
The currency of trust
Enclosed in a thick crust
But when you get to the center
It’s just a pile of mush
The words, “I love you” are just that, words
True love is shown, not simply spoken
If you want to prove it, I’d suggest you walk the entire earth
Do you really love me? Or do you just see me as your token?
Luckily, when it comes to you, I don’t find myself wondering
You tucked me in and cared for me when I was sick
You cooked delicious and thoughtful meals for me, despite my allergies
You cleaned and organized the book shelf just the way I like it
You say you're full when you're really hungry so I have more to eat
You were there for me when no one else was, and believed in me when no one else did
You didn’t care how it made you look
Even if I’m not in good health, I know our relationship is
You know my favorite colors, foods, music, and
All my habits down to the wire
Forgive me if I sound a bit crude, but
It is with you, that I hope to retire
