Earth
How does my hair look?
Is my makeup smudged?
Are my clothes in style?
Will there be good food?
That’s all we seem to care about.
Nobody cares for the future.
They care about what’s here
now.
Nobody thinks too far ahead.
That hamburger you ate for dinner
took more than
twenty thousand pounds
of water.
And you have the audacity to blame
a lack of rain
for this ridiculous drought.
That steak you ate with your fancy lunch
was just one of the
fifty-six billion
farmed animals
killed
every year
so you could eat your damn meat.
The girl in that one movie had great hair.
How did she do it?
Well, it was by
destroying the ozone layer,
all those chemicals must go somewhere.
but hey
she had great hair.
The makeup you look oh so hideous without
kills the environment.
it’s filled with
chemicals and toxic ingredients.
That sounds fun to put onto the earth,
along with your face.
Your clothes look cute.
oops…
not anymore
they are out of style.
I guess you should throw away
everything from before
and kill a new animal
for new leather boots
and shear a new sheep
for another wool coat.
At least packaged food will always be good.
It’ll last for years,
but so will the packaging
in fact
it will last for hundreds.
We act like it’s normal
like there is absolutely
nothing we can do.
We act like nothing will happen
because it hasn’t…
right?
Everything is changing
slowly yet surely.
Our global temperature has risen
nearly four degrees above the
pre- industrial times.
Per person
Americans throw away
four-fifths of a ton
of trash.
Yet we hardly notice.
We act like it’s nothing
because it is nothing
until it is something.
The things we throw away,
the things we do today
determine the future
of what or who survive.
Well then
how do we fix the problem?
How do we save the thing
we have been killing
for decades
unknowingly?
There are so many options
we just have to
come together
as one
to make the cure accessible.
Let’s save water and animals
by going vegan.
It won’t be hard if we
ALL do it together.
Let’s get rid of makeup and hair products
by making natural beautiful
and beautiful natural.
If looks and style were irrelevant,
we could care only for the real meanings
of life.
Let’s band together
as one
to create a
calmer
safer
cleaner
and nicer
earth.
We could do it if we ACTUALLY tried.
